Rishikesh Rafting & Himalayan Foothills Trek (6N/7D)

Gemini_Generated_Image_81gw3q81gw3q81gw

Description

Rishikesh occupies a rare position in India as both the yoga capital of the world and its most'established white-water rafting destination, and this seven-day itinerary makes full use of both'identities. Set where the Ganges leaves the Himalaya and enters the plains, the town offers'Grade III and IV rapids, forested foothill trekking, riverside camping and a spiritual atmosphere'that has drawn seekers for centuries.

The rafting is the centrepiece. The Ganges between Kaudiyala and Rishikesh delivers a'sequence of well-known rapids including Three Blind Mice, The Wall, Golf Course and Roller'Coaster, run in inflatable rafts with certified guides and full safety kayak support. Sections are'graded so that beginners and experienced rafters can both be properly served, and the water is'clear, cold and fast during the post-monsoon and spring seasons.

Trekking takes you into the Garhwal foothills. The Nag Tibba ridge at 3,022 metres is the best'short trek in the region, reached over two days through oak and rhododendron forest with a summit view spanning Bandarpunch, Swargarohini, Kedarnath and Gangotri peaks. It requires no technical skill, and camping on the ridge with the Himalaya laid out at dawn is the single'strongest memory most guests take home.

The itinerary balances exertion with recovery. Riverside camping on white sand beaches, cliff'jumping and body surfing in calmer pools, a bungee jump and giant swing for those who want'them, and morning yoga and meditation sessions at established ashrams. The evening Ganga Aarti at Parmarth Niketan closes the days with candles floated on the river. It is an adventure'tour with genuine range, and it works particularly well for active travellers with limited time.

FAQ

Do I need rafting experience to raft the Ganges at Rishikesh?
No. Shorter stretches such as Brahmapuri to Rishikesh are graded I to III and suit complete beginners. The longer Shivpuri and Kaudiyala runs include Grade IV rapids and are better for those with some experience or good fitness. All participants receive a full safety briefing, and guides are certified professionals.
When is rafting available in Rishikesh?
The season runs from late September to the end of June, with the strongest flows in late September and October after the monsoon and again in March and April from snowmelt. Rafting is closed during the monsoon from July to mid- September when the Ganges runs dangerously high.
How difficult is the Nag Tibba trek?
It is graded easy to moderate and requires no technical skill or prior trekking experience, though reasonable fitness helps. The ascent covers roughly 8 kilometres over two days with a total elevation gain of around 900 metres from the trailhead. Porters carry camping equipment, so you walk with a light daypack.
Is riverside camping in Rishikesh comfortable?
Camps use fixed Swiss tents on white sand beaches with proper beds, bedding and shared or attached washroom facilities depending on category. Meals are cooked fresh at camp and served around a bonfire. Camps operate seasonally and are removed during the monsoon under environmental regulations.
Can non-rafters and non-trekkers enjoy this itinerary?
Yes. Rishikesh offers extensive yoga and meditation programmes, Ayurvedic treatments, riverside walks, temple visits and the daily Ganga Aarti. Members of a party who prefer not to raft or trek can be arranged a parallel programme so that everyone travels together while doing what suits them.
Is alcohol available in Rishikesh?
No. Rishikesh and Haridwar are designated holy cities where alcohol and meat are prohibited by law, and the restriction is genuinely enforced. Most local food is vegetarian. Travellers who wish to drink should plan for that in Delhi at the start or end of the trip.
What fitness level do I need for this adventure tour?
Moderate general fitness is sufficient. If you can walk comfortably for four to five hours on uneven ground and are in good cardiovascular health, you will manage both the rafting and the trek. Please declare any heart condition, back injury, recent surgery or pregnancy at the time of booking.
