Description

Kaziranga is one of the great wildlife spectacles of Asia — a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the floodplains of the Brahmaputra, home to two-thirds of the world's one-horned rhinoceros and one of the highest tiger densities in India. The Kaziranga Weekend Tour by Indian Inspire Journey packs this extraordinary park into a perfectly formed 3-night, 4-day escape from Guwahati — elephant-back safaris at dawn, jeep drives through elephant grass taller than your vehicle, and rhinos at closer quarters than anywhere else on earth.

Few parks reward a short visit like Kaziranga. Its dense wildlife populations mean rhino sightings are effectively guaranteed, wild elephants and Asiatic water buffalo roam the wetlands in herds, and swamp deer graze the open bheels in their hundreds. The birdlife is world-class too — pelicans, storks, hornbills, and winter migrants filling the sky above the grasslands.

This itinerary covers the park's key ranges across three safari sessions — including the signature dawn elephant safari, when rhinos emerge from the mist just metres away — with  comfortable jungle lodge accommodation and expert naturalists throughout.

For international travellers from the UK, USA, and Australia, Kaziranga is North-East India's essential wildlife experience, and Indian Inspire Journey — with wildlife tourism as its founding expertise — makes every arrangement seamless from Guwahati and back.

FAQ

Will I definitely see rhinos at Kaziranga?
As close to guaranteed as wildlife watching gets — Kaziranga protects over 2,600 one- horned rhinos, roughly two-thirds of the entire world population, in open grassland habitat where they are visible on virtually every safari. Multiple sightings per drive are the norm, not the exception.
What is the elephant safari like?
The dawn elephant safari is Kaziranga's signature experience — riding into the misty grasslands as rhinos graze undisturbed just metres away, an angle and intimacy no jeep can match. Slots are limited and allocated by the forest department, which is why we book well in advance.
When is Kaziranga open and when is the best time to visit?
The park is open from October–November to April–May, closing for the monsoon floods. December to March offers the best combination of weather, birdlife, and comfortable safari conditions; February–March brings shorter grass and the easiest sightings.
What animals live in Kaziranga besides rhinos?
Wild elephants, Asiatic water buffalo, eastern swamp deer, hog deer, wild boar, and one of India's highest tiger densities — though the tall grass makes tigers elusive. Gangetic dolphins swim the Brahmaputra channels and nearly 500 bird species have been recorded.
How do I reach Kaziranga?
Fly to Guwahati — well connected with Delhi and Kolkata — followed by a 4.5-hour private drive included in this package. Jorhat airport (2 hours) is an alternative gateway for some flight routings.
Is Kaziranga suitable for families?
Wonderfully — open jeeps, near-certain rhino sightings, and the elephant safari make it one of India's most rewarding parks for children, with comfortable lodges and short drive distances inside the park.
Can this tour be extended?
Easily — extra safari days, the Hollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary near Jorhat, or a Brahmaputra river cruise can all be added. See our longer Kaziranga itineraries or ask Indian Inspire Journey for a tailored version.
